Arkava Das
Arkava Das lives in Delhi, India. These poems draw heavily on certain Buddhist sources especially the Lankavatara Sutra and Vasubandhu’s description of seed-consciousness. The incursion of the Tibetan Bardo is as some sort of eclipse that (like Ibn Sina’s quote) you see everywhere once you see it.
Ashwin Mudigonda
Ashwin Mudigonda was born and raised on the eastern coast of southern India in the city of Madras. He studied electrical engineering and moved to the US for his Master’s. He currently works as a robotics engineer, but his passion for writing has burnt steady. He has written many short stories, 2 novels, and a novella. His first novel, he self published on Amazon. He is currently working on a collection of short stories. He also happens to be an avid photographer and that’s how he spends his free time when he is not writing.
Chris Luppi
Christopher Luppi was born in New York. He graduated from The New School for Social Research where he majored in writing and literature and minored in education. He also did a lot of other stuff. He now lives in Thailand and has done for a lot of years. The story in this issue of Eastlit originally appeared at Elimae and was named one of the “Notable Stories of 2008” by storySouth’s annual Million Writers Award. His writing has also appeared at Asiancha, Pequin, and Bureau 39.
Daniel Hickey
Daniel Hickey is from Ireland and he currently lives in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, where he teaches English at Sichuan University and writes freelance for local newspapers and publications. He has lived in China for two years.
Before moving to China, he was a journalist, covering politics, protests, murder trials and football matches for newspapers in Ireland.
Donald R. Vogel
Donald R. Vogel’s work has appeared in the Lanthorne, Wising Up Press, Classic Fighting Arts Magazine, Blackheart Magazine, Misfits’ Miscellany, and Static Movement. He holds an MA in English (/05) from Stony Brook University where he has also attended the Southampton Writers (’08). Mr. Vogel is currently enrolled in the MFA program at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, where he also works as a major gifts officer. He resides in West Islip, NY, with his wife and son.
James Underwood
James Underwood is a poet and English teacher from the Great Lake State of Michigan. After graduating from UMBC in 1995 with a BA in English Literature, he moved to Southeast Asia, where he has lived and travelled since. This is his first publication.
Kyle Hemmings
Kyle Hemmings is the author of several chapbooks of poetry and prose: Avenue C, Cat People, and Anime Junkie (Scars Publications), and Tokyo Girls in Science Fiction (NAP). His latest e-books are You Never Die in Wholes from Good Story Press and The Truth about Onions from Good Samaritan. He has been published in Wigleaf, Storyglossia, Elimae, Match Book, This Zine Will Save Your Life, and other zines. Kyle lives and writes in New Jersey.
Mark Frederick Lining Bulandus
Born on January 5, 1980, Mark Frederick Lining Bulandus has experienced teaching in the primary, secondary and tertiary education levels. He finished his bachelor’s degree in Education major in English at the Philippine Women’s University in Manila. He is currently focusing on his Master’s Degree in Literature from the Philippine Normal University.
Steve Rosse
In 1988 Steve Rosse took a break from a career in the New York City film and television industry for a three-month holiday on Phuket, an island off the Western coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea.
He decided he liked Phuket more than he liked New York, and without any idea of what he’d do for a living, he took up residence on the island. He supported himself, and eventually his wife and children, for most of the next decade as a freelance journalist and columnist.
His column, “The Rock”, appeared in The Nation, Thailand’s Independent Newspaper, every Sunday for five years.
In 1997 he moved to Iowa for the surfing.
Steve Tait
After almost twenty years as an EFL teacher, teacher trainer, and supervisor in Bangkok, Thailand, Steve decided it was time for a change. With his precious Romanian partner by his side, he now spends his time doing some teacher training in Korea, Thailand, or Malaysia, hanging out in the Romanian countryside, and otherwise drifting through South-East Asia.
He has one ebook to his name, a novel which is available as a free download from Lulu.
Suvi Mahonen
Suvi Mahonen holds a Master’s degree in Writing and Literature from Deakin University in Australia. Her writing has appeared in a number of literary magazines and online in Australia (Island, LiNQ, Verandah), the UK (East of the Web), the United States (most recently on MetroMoms), Canada (All Rights Reserved) and Chile (Southern Pacific Review). She has also worked as a journalist inAustralia and Canada and has published many feature articles, reviews and travel stories. One of her short stories, ‘Bobby’, was included in The Best Australian Stories 2010. More of her work can be found here.
